While reading Mao's Last Dancer, I felt like I wanted to read more because it was exciting. I was reading the life of a peasant in China who get's the opportunity of a lifetime to dance at the Beijing Dance academy, but does not want to take it because he wants to stay at home with his niang and dia.
A pattern I have found is that the author has little events leading up to a really detailed and factual climax in each chapter. This is usually a bad thing that leaves the reader shocked and wanting to read this book again and again until they figure out what ha actually happen and understand it so much that if there is another book they know what will be in it. But some parts can be heart-warming like when Li Cunxin works and works towards his dream because he wants to make china, his family and especially his loving, caring but poor parents.
In my opinion i think anyone that has high imagination and a high context of knowledge should reads this book.
